You found the poster. Now the questions start. Which size? Will A2 be too big? How do I frame the thing without it looking cheap?
Here's the whole answer in plain terms. Real measurements, which size fits which wall, and how to frame an A2 so it looks gallery-grade instead of dorm-room. No guesswork.
A4 vs A3 vs A2 — the actual sizes
The A-series is simple once you see it. Each size up is double the one below. Here's what you're actually working with:
- A4 — 21 × 29.7 cm (about 8.3 × 11.7 in). Small. Think a single sheet of printer paper. Great in a cluster, not as a solo statement.
- A3 — 29.7 × 42 cm (about 11.7 × 16.5 in). The all-rounder. Big enough to hold a wall on its own, small enough to group.
- A2 — 42 × 59.4 cm (about 16.5 × 23.4 in). The statement size. This is the one people notice from the doorway.
Rule of thumb: A2 is the size of two A3s stacked, and an A3 is two A4s. Keep that in your head and you'll never mis-order.
Which size for which wall
Don't buy blind. Match the size to the space:
- Above a desk or nightstand: A3. It fills the gap without crowding it.
- Big empty wall, one hero piece: A2. Let it run the whole wall. Go big or the wall swallows it.
- Gallery cluster of covers or characters: A4s and A3s mixed. Small sizes are made to group.
- Narrow spots — between a door and a shelf, a hallway strip: A4. Slot it in.
- Above a bed or sofa: A2, or a row of two to three A3s. Scale to the furniture below it.
Quick trick: cut a sheet of newspaper to the size and tape it up for a day. You'll know instantly if A2 is right or too much. Costs nothing, saves a re-order.
Different lanes suit different scales, too. A bold album cover or a single anime character print earns A2 as a solo hero. Football legends and car prints look mean at A2 over a desk, or clean as an A3 trio.
How to frame an A2 poster (so it looks expensive)
Framing is where a good poster becomes a great one. Do it right:
- Get a frame made for A2 (42 × 59.4 cm). Buy the exact size — no forcing a print into the wrong frame. A2 frames are standard, easy to find, and ours ship framed if you want zero effort.
- Mount it flat. Slide the poster in clean, no creases, corners square. A slightly bent corner is the one thing that reads "cheap." Take your time here.
- Glass or acrylic front? Acrylic is lighter, shatter-proof and safer over a bed. Glass looks slightly crisper. Both protect the print from dust and fingerprints — worth it.
- Matte or gloss frame? Matte black is the safe hero move — it disappears and lets the print talk. Chrome or white for a louder, cleaner look. Pick the frame to match the room, not the poster.
- Hang at eye level. Center of the poster around 145–150 cm off the floor. Higher than that and it floats; lower and it feels off. Measure once, drill once.

The mistakes that make an A2 look cheap
A big print shows every flaw, so avoid the classic ones. Don't cram it into a nearly-right frame — the border gaps give it away. Don't hang it too high; a floating A2 looks like an afterthought. Don't skip the wall check — an A2 that's right for a big empty wall will overwhelm a small alcove. And don't buy a flimsy clip frame for your hero piece; the whole point of going A2 is impact, so back it with a frame that carries weight. Get those four right and even a simple cover looks like it came from a gallery.
Framed vs unframed — quick call
- Framed = clean, protected, grown. Best for your standout A2 hero.
- Unframed / taped = loose, layered, mixtape energy. Best for dense A4 clusters where the whole wall is the piece.
